At The Garden, we are dedicated to keeping our pupils safe both in school and online. While the Internet offers a fun and engaging space for connecting with family and friends, it can also pose risks to people of all ages. That's why it's crucial to use every available tool to protect both ourselves and the children in our care, whether at school or at home.
Steps to Help Keep Your Child Safe at Home
Many Internet Service Providers offer filtering systems that help you provide safe Internet access at home. Parents and carers are encouraged to set security levels within Internet browsers.
What You Can Do at Home to Help Keep Your Child Safe
- Ensure tablets and phones are used in shared areas, not private spaces like bedrooms.
- Take an interest in their activities, and ask them to show you some of the exciting things they’re doing online.
- Be aware that children may sometimes find new ways to interact online that you might not know about.
- Friend request or follow your child on social media, but keep in mind they can hide certain posts from specific people.
Social media sites like Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter, along with gaming platforms, offer chat features. While these can be positive, cyberbullying is a risk for people of all ages. Encourage your child to step away if they feel uncomfortable and to report any issues to a trusted adult.
We work with Knowsley City Learning Centre to provide monthly newsletters for parents with the most up to date online safety information. Knowsley City Learning Centre also provides online workshops for parents.
