 Pathways Overview

At The Garden School, pupils follow a personalised learning journey through our pathways.

All pupils start on our Foundations Pathway, which sets the stage for their educational experience. From there, they move onto one of three pathways based on the SCERTS model —Curiosity, Discovery, or Enquiry—each carefully designed to suit their individual strengths and interests. As they progress, all pupils move to the Transitions Pathway, which begins to prepare them for adulthood and life beyond school. There is a clear intent for each of our pathways.

Curiosity

Participation in a variety of highly motivating activities fosters the development of meaningful relationships with others. These activities encompass making choices, intentional communication, and accepting support. Pupils are also given opportunities to engage in local community activities. This approach prepares pupils to transition smoothly to the Transitions pathway, equipping them with the skills necessary for their future adult lives.

 Discovery

Active participation in lessons and activities enhances skills and knowledge across subject areas, supported by established routines and structures. Emphasis is placed on developing independence in spontaneous communication and the ability to seek support when needed. Students are given opportunities to engage in various local community activities. This preparation ensures pupils are well-equipped to transition to the Transitions Pathway, with the necessary learning and community experiences to support their readiness for adulthood.

 Enquiry

Active involvement in learning across various subjects helps students apply their skills and knowledge to problem-solving. They develop an understanding of different relationships and self-awareness while being given opportunities to engage in and plan community-based activities. Emphasis is placed on fostering spontaneous and creative communication for diverse purposes. This preparation ensures pupils are ready to transition to the Transitions Pathway, with the necessary learning and certifications to support their readiness for adulthood.

Transitions

Pupils are provided with relevant and tailored opportunities across various subjects, activities, and community settings to continue developing and functionally applying their skills and knowledge. The goal is to enhance the skills needed for their personal journey and preparation for adulthood through a holistic approach that fosters independence. This includes personal and emotional development in social and meaningful contexts, supported by relevant certifications, accreditations, and work-related learning.
