At The Garden School, we take a holistic and creative approach to teaching the core strands of English: Communication, Reading, and Writing. Our English Assessment Points document focuses on three key areas: Reading (Comprehension), Writing (Transcription and Grammar), and Writing (Composition). Learning objectives are carefully selected to align with these areas.
Each sequence of lessons is based on a core text linked to our topic. High-quality texts and a variety of genres are used to support learning and inspire a love of reading and storytelling. Weekly lessons follow a structured progression: beginning with engaging story activities, moving through writing exercises, and concluding with a celebration and consolidation lesson. Throughout the curriculum we place a strong emphasis on enhancing pupils’ communication skills.
